The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has appointed a new Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Weldon Gage began in his new position this week, January 12, 2015, bringing to the institution 18 years worth of experience in improving financial performance in the healthcare industry.
Weldon Gage earned his bachelor of business administration degree in finance from the Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, before pursuing his MBA at Texas A&M University. His career as a financial analyst in MD Anderson began in 1999, which catapulted him to the position of associate director of strategic finance before moving on to work for Texas Children’s Hospital as vice president for finance from 2005 to 2012. Here, he conducted the development and maintenance of the hospital’s financial strategies, and directed capital market activities, debt programs, and primary financial services.
“Not only are we pleased that Weldon is returning to MD Anderson where he served for six years earlier in his career, but we are fortunate to benefit from his strategic finance experiences at both Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Texas Children’s Hospital,” said Leon Leach, executive vice president and chief business officer at MD Anderson.
During Gage’s terms, both Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin adopted the Epic electronic medical records system. Gage hopes to bring the same system improvements to MD Anderson as they continue to implement a new e-health record system.
In other recent news on MD Anderson, Dr. David M. Gershenson recently received the Award of Excellence from the International Gynecology Cancer Society, for his clinical, organizational, and scientific achievements in gynecologic oncology. He was presented with the award during the IGCS’s 15th Biennial Meeting in Melbourne, Australia.
