Austin-based medical device company and holder of the Lap-Band technology Apollo Endosurgery recently announced that Todd Newton will join its executive management team as chief executive officer and as a member of the board of directors, effective July 1, 2014. The company’s founder, Dennis McWilliams, currently serving as president and CEO, will assume the role of president and chief commercial officer and report to Newton.
A graduate in Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a member of the Texas State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Todd Newton has been serving as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and chief operating officer at medical device company ArthroCare Corporation, an Austin, Texas-based developer and manufacturer of surgical devices, instruments, and implants, since April 2009. Prior to that, Newton served in various executive officer roles at oil company Synenco Energy, including as president and CEO. He was also part of Deloitte & Touche LLP for two decades, before joining Synenco.
Now set to serve as head of Apollo, Newton is enthusiastic about working with the company’s team, to help it “achieve its full potential” in developing minimally invasive endoscopic surgical products for bariatric and gastrointestinal procedures.
McWilliams will continue to oversee the global commercial function pf the company, focusing on strengthening customer and partner relationships, developing new products, and re-launching and expanding the use of the LAP-BAND System, a device that limits all consuming hunger and was reported on by BioNews Texas last month.
