Texas-based Premier Biomedical recently released updates regarding the latest advances in the management of head trauma. Traumatic brain injuries can be the result of sports related injuries, accidents, or assault, and have been associated with chronic neurological deficits that may impair personal, professional, and psycho-social aspects of a person’s life. Various health issues like PTSD and chronic clinical depression that may culminate in psychological issues like violence or suicidal ideation are also associated with traumatic brain injuries. In addition, some patients may develop permanent degenerative brain damage, leading to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.
According to the latest statistics released by the Veteran Administration, the rate of suicide is fairly high in active-duty individuals (one per day). The incidence is as high as one per hour when veterans are also included in the count. This is indeed a major healthcare problem that should be adequately addressed.
Premier Biomedical, Inc. has announced a collaboration with the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Center of Expertise at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center and University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has led to a breakthrough discovery. The research team has identified the molecular markers that may explain this unexplained exaggerated behavior. In-depth clinical studies will be conducted in animal subjects after the completion of primary lab work.
William A. Hartman, CEO of Premier Biomedical Inc., explained:
“This is a huge development that could have far-reaching benefits for our military personnel and veterans as well as athletes in high school, college, and professional sports. We are also developing objective tests to accurately and objectively measure the intensity of the neurological problems as well as procedures to treat those people so afflicted. We have learned that such brain trauma is not necessarily induced by one major event, but by an accumulation of smaller, less noticeable events”
Hartman also suggested that the research team is arranging meetings with healthcare professionals from prominent sports organizations to devise methods by which they can be involved in the research and development process to address the issue of traumatic brain injuries and its consequences.
