Last month, the Cowtown Angels of Fort Worth joined with Tech Fort Worth in providing $5 million in new funding to TFW’s start-up project Encore Vision, of which $750,000 was provided by the Cowtown Angels — the largest sum the investors’ group has ever raised for a single company. Once again, the Cowtown Angels have made headlines with another promising investment in Fort Worth.
The new funding project is E-Mist Innovations Inc., a Tech Fort Worth client that, according to the press release, “has developed a proprietary, patented electrostatic technology for applying disinfectants and anti-bacterial chemicals for a healthier, safer environment.” E-Mist has received a $150k first-round investment from the Cowtown Angels, and will also install Cowtown Angel member George Robertson as its President and Chief Executive Officer. The funding effort involved eight investors from the group, who received additional rights for the next round of investment.
Mr. Robertson brings a great deal of biotech and healthcare-focused business acumen to his new role at E-Mist. He currently serves as Executive Chairman and founder of National HME, a durable medical equipment (DME) company that “provides quality equipment, unsurpassed customer service and cost containment solutions for hospices and the patients they serve.” Considering that National HME has more than 40 service centers and a Hospice Cloud Network that serves more than 500 hospice programs, with a patient census in excess of 23,000 daily, he is well positioned to further accurate E-Mist’s entrance into the medical device and healthcare industry, both in Texas and nationally.
E-Mist Innovations is the creation of Mike Sides, the founder of the company and inventor of its novel technology. He along with his daughter Brandi Whitely, the Clinical Director, and Christopher Sides will all serve on the E-Mist Board of Directors add the company continues to roll out its product offerings and further commercialize its technologies. Despite the new money and added executive help from Robertson, the Sides family will remain actively involved in the business, ensuring that E-Mist remains a family-run operation.
“This is a very exciting story of a family from Goldthwaite, Texas, coming to us for help,” said TechFW Executive Director Darlene Ryan. “E-Mist was one of our Impact Award finalists in the Health category last year while going through our Incubation program, which got them the opportunity to pitch to the Cowtown Angels as well as other support from the community. Now the company is getting the money it needs to proceed and gaining an experienced CEO. The company will be continuing with TechFW in our Acceleration program. It’s a great example of how we help businesses get their technology to market.”
E-Mist’s innovative method for applying disinfectants and anti-bacterial chemicals that quickly disperse and cover all surfaces in healthcare facilities seeks to fulfill an unmet need in the industry, wherein, according to the CD, infectious diseases are the second leading cause of deaths worldwide. Improved disinfection is achieved via the company’s proprietary electrostatic mister, which applies EPA-approved disinfectants very quickly to areas via fine mist, which is electrostatic ally charged. This process ensures that every every area of a smooth, porous or textured surface is covered and disinfected, while being much less labor- and time-intensive, disinfects and treats surfaces in less time and provides a safer, healthier environment for a longer time than a conventional process.
The company provides sanitation and disinfectant services for offices, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, classrooms, day care centers, hotels, restaurants, computer labs, libraries, gymnasiums and locker rooms, all types of public and mass transit, and public facilities.
