With an office located in Westlake Hills, Lake, Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates offers evaluation and treatment of allergic diseases, including rhinitis, asthma, food allergies, hives, and stinging insect reactions. This practice was established in 1998 and it’s under the Medical Direction of J. Alex Martinez, MD.
Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates’ average patient volume is 25 patients per day. Many different insurance plans are accepted, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, Humana, PHCS, United Healthcare and Medicare.

The center follows the medical practice of Alex Martinez, M.D., who has been in Austin since 1996. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1991 and did his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Martinez then went back to Kansas City for his allergy training.
The medical staff also includes Ann Messer, M.D., who graduated from Rush Medical College in 1989 and practices regularly at Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates. Dr. Messer’s interest for allergy studies appeared many years ago when she was working with Dr. David Hines.
Office Staff at Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates
Becky Robinson is the Medical Manager at Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy and is responsible for all aspects of the clinic. Over the last 40 years, she has been working in treating allergies, first with Dr. Tom McElhenney, then Dr. David Hines, and now Dr. Martinez.
Salvy Chang handles all allergy injections without losing touch with those in patient care. After studying in Nicaragua and California, Salvy Chang landed on Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates in 2001. Her fluency and Spanish is useful for communicating with Spanish-speaking patients.
As Front Desk Coordinator, Roberta Mireles registers patients as they come in for their appointments at Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates since 1999. Billing and Insurance coordination is Valerie Sandoval’s job, she deals with accounting at Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy since 2005. The most recent staff member is Rufina Snyder, who administers allergy injections to patients on immunotherapy.
The mascot of Lake Austin Asthma and Allergy Associates is a dog named Trevor, a Norwich terrier born July 29, 2001. Welcomed at the office when he was a puppy, Trevor is trained to do tricks to entertain both patients and staff.
