Texas-based Orthofix International has announced the full market release of their cutting edge Trinity® ELITE™ product, which will give doctors a different option from standard procedures used for bone grafts. The announcement of the launch of the Trinity® ELITE™ Allograft with Viable Cells and VersaShield™ Amniotic Membrane tissue forms was made in conjunction with the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), a non-profit that is the leading tissue bank in the United States, setting up donors with recipients in need of tissue. Trinity ELITE will be distributed by Orthofix through both its U.S. Extermity Fixation and Spine Fixation channels.
“In my initial usage of Trinity ELITE, I have been extremely satisfied with the ability to pack more graft material into a disc space during a posterior lumbar interbody fusion procedure, as well as posterior laterally,” Dr. Peter M. Shedden, one of Orthofix’s medical education team and also a staff member at the Greater Houston Neurosurgery Center in The Woodlands, Texas, explains. “In addition, this novel allograft represents a new option for surgeons who want to apply a cell-based allograft to the lateral gutter and lay it flat along the transverse process.” Orthofix’s Trinity ELITE is unique in that it allows the user to mould the product as required.
“Over the last five years, the MTF/Orthofix partnership has proven to be a successful endeavor providing a new, viable cell tissue form to tissue recipients,” Bruce Stroever, the CEO of the MTF was quoted as saying. “Trinity ELITE is the first fully moldable allograft with viable cells. This next generation allograft is the first cell-based offering of its kind designed to provide an enhanced handling experience and greatly improved graft containment properties.”
